POISON drummer Rikki Rockett has released the following statement:

"We are playing a venue [Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre in Toledo, Ohio] affiliated with the zoo tonight [Thursday, July 28]. For the record, I am not in favor of zoos. It’s another example of exploitation of animals for profit. I am not going to make this show about that issue, however. This is about POISON and the fans. I am simply stating my stance on zoos and I think that it’s essential that I do."

Rockett has previously worked with Los Angeles-based Last Chance for Animals (LCA) to expose the Animal "B" Dealer Rings and Puppy Mill atrocities. Rockett has been returning to his native state of Pennsylvania every September to help rally support to stop the puppy mills around Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

"You don’t have to be an animal rights activist to see how these rodeos hurt the animals," he previously said. "It isn’t a matter of perspective or opinion — animal suffering, injuries and death are all part of rodeos."

Rockett specifically decries the use of electric shock, buck straps, and spurs regularly used in rodeos, known as "Tools of Torment" to animal advocates. As the rodeo industry has attempted to expand, the need to put on a more exciting show has resulted in more abuse, especially since some events are partly scored on how wild an animal acts.
