THE ZYRIS/ZYRIS FEUD BEGINS!

Zyris vs. Scott the Drummer

Updated 4/17 (scroll down to see recent updates)

4/16

Just when you thought things couldn’t get more ridiculous, here comes an interesting footnote to the Metal Sludge Band-Off which officially ended the notorious Zyris/Jester Feud.

This all started the other day when we recieved the following e-mail from Zyris’ bass player Paulie:

I guess I should put Zyris in a search engine more often. First off; Scott does not represent the Band Zyris, nor should he start school yard battles with anyone and associate the band Zyris; nor should he be doing 10 questions about Zyris bad mouthing other members’ friends. Any questions about Zyris/Ozzy/Zakk should be answered by Johnny I, he is the only current member of the band that was there. Johnny, Gary and myself had no idea any of this bullshit was going on. There for this should be called 10 questions with Scott & the Scott – Jester feud. The 3 of us have nothing bad to say about anyone!! I apologize to everyone and I am embarrassed to be associated with this immature crap.

Paulie: The Very Pissed Off Bass Player From Zyris

And people ask me why I drink so much…… fuckin assholes

Well, this was quite a surprise to us. After we stopped laughing, we put two and two together, and came to the conclusion that Scott the drummer-guy went and did a 10 Questions interview on behalf of Zyris without telling anyone else in the band.

So we had our own bastard boy floyd e-mail Paulie back and tried to get a little more information out of him. Not that floyd’s a good negotiator or anything, but he was the only one around with time to waste, so he got stuck with the job.

Anyhow, here is Paulie’s response to floyd:

hey floyd,

first off, thanks for your help. to be honest, scott’s been an asshole from day 1. i used to book all the shows with concerts east. he wanted to book shows, i said fine, just don’t call concerts east, i deal with them. when u have a good thing going you don’t need another rep getting involved. it will always fuck things up. so what did scott do, he went over my head and fucked things up. he’s a weird dude. concerts east used to call us. ‘hey you guys want to open for styx,’ i would say ‘hold on let me ask the guys.’ when we started doing this again, we were happy getting together in my basement writing songs and drinking. this is what we do. we love it. it had nothing to do with getting a record deal or anything like that. we were playing music and having a good time. we wrote songs, people liked them, so we book a gig at birch hill and it just took off. we didn’t try do anything, it just happened. we never called anyone for a gig, they would call us. and that was cool. we were beyond the ‘we’re gonna be rock stars.’ if it happened great, if it didn’t, we are musicians and we are playin our own music and having fun doing it. we were always writing. scott got in the band and the writing stoppped. we have not wrote one new song since scott has been in the band. he is more into playin rock star than to work a little. to us that’s what kept it fresh, as it would to anyone. i could go on about the fucked up things he has done. he is the biggest poser i know. i hate being negative. if i had my way he would have been gone years ago.

peace

paulie

Here’s another corroborating e-mail from a member of Zyris’ inner circle:

I am a longtime very close friend of Zyris. All the shit Scott is saying is BULLSHIT. I travel with them and last show I should have kicked his ass when I had the chance, but the show must go on.

signed,

Longtime roadie.

We figured this was going to come to a head somehow, some way, at some time. Little did we know it would only take another day before the shit hit the fan!

The other night, Scott — the drummer guy who did 10 Questions on behalf of Zyris — sent around this e-mail to a bunch of people. He didn’t send it directly to us, but it was forwarded to us from about a half dozen people who received it:

Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2005 9:22 PM
Subject: ZYRIS has broken up

due to inner turmoil within the band,we have broken up. this time it is for good. more info will be sent out shortly. thanks for all the support for the band these last million years.

ZYRIS

That was almost to much to believe! Did Zyris, a band from New Jersey who’s been around for about 2 decades, really throw in the towel and call it a day over a 10 Questions with Metal Sludge?

Just to be safe, we had floyd e-mail Paulie again to see if that e-mail was legit. Here was his reply:

no, zyris just needs a new drummer

So who’s right and who’s wrong in all of this? We thought long and hard about this topic and still couldn’t entirely make sense of it.

On one hand, Scott’s 10 Questions interview he did on behalf of Zyris is, without a doubt, the most popular 10 Questions interview ever in Metal Sludge history. He took 10 Questions to a new level and put a really obscure New Jersey band on the map. Now Zyris is a household name around the world! That’s got to be worth something.

On the other hand, if Scott went and slagged on band members’ friends and insulted all their peers without them backing it, then that’s probably not a good thing. That would be like bastard boy floyd going and doing an interview without the knowledge of the rest of the Metal Sludge staff and bashing on all of Jani Bon Neil’s and Donna Anderson’s closest friends. Not that they have any friends. Just sayin’.

Either way, we’ll be watching this new twist in the never-ending Zyris saga as it unfolds. We’ll be sure to keep you updated if there’s anything interesting that transpires.

Updated 4/17:

Looks like our post late last night caused a stir in the Zyris camp! Here’s a rebuttal from Zyris’ (ex?) drummer Scott that floyd found in his inbox at 1 p.m. today when he woke up:

floyd,

first off, let me tell you the real reason behind all the zyris turmoil. yes, i book all the shows, simply for the fact that paulie has the attitude of "dude, let the promoters call us, were zyris", what a crock of bullshit. all they care about is getting fucked up and what not…. every single show we do…. ZYRIS will never do anything ever again .you have to go out and grab what you want and all they want is booze…….. im sure people who have seen us will say that im right .our singer is a mess and i dont know how many times he has embarrased us over the years… paulie is pissed because i slagged his buddy SEBASTIAN… he has this way of thinking that bas is going to help zyris out and take the band on the road. BULL FUCKING SHIT DUDE. grow up and relize that your not a rockstar paulie….. loose your dl 1 more time dude and its for 10 yrsa.. if im such an asshole, why am i the only one with any sense of reality. we will see if zyris does anything. i bet they dont… Gary our guitarist is done as well. he wants nothing to do with you guys either.. i talk to him (i did 5x yesterday)…….. thats it….. ill see yas wherever and whenever (if you can get your head out of baz’s ass long enough to do something) ans johhny, ill see ya next time i drive by that place in brick nj where all the homeless hang out…….. FUCKING LOW LIFE DRUNK LOOSERS…… and RANDY (the zyris roadie email,) see ya with johny (their best friends) you asshole)… you guys have my address, bring it:

im out like zyris carreer

scott

And that’s not all! Scott sent another e-mail to floyd, this time addressing Paulie the bass player’s first e-mail (scroll up) line-by-line.

first off, thanks for your help. to be honest, scott’s been an asshole from day 1 (THANKS FOR TELLING ME NOW). i used to book all the shows with concerts east (THE BIRCH HILL, WOW, NICE TO BRANCH OUT MORON). he wanted to book shows, i said fine, just don’t call concerts east, i deal with them. when u have a good thing going you don’t need another rep getting involved (ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT PAULIE USED TO BUY ALL THE TIX FROM THEM, NICE WAY TO BE RESPECTED BUTT MUNCH). it will always fuck things up. so what did scott do, he went over my head and fucked things up. he’s a weird dude. concerts east used to call us (DUDE, WE ARE NOT ROCK STARS, CLUBS WONT CALL US, JESUS, WHAT ARE WE, THE BEATLES). ‘hey you guys want to open for styx,’ i would say ‘hold on let me ask the guys.’ when we started doing this again, we were happy getting together in my basement writing songs, getting high and drinking (YOU AND JOHNY WERE,DONT INCLUDE ME IN THAT STATEMENT YOU DRUNKEN, LOOSE YOU DRUNKEN LOOSER). this is what we do. we love it. it had nothing to do with getting a record deal or anything like that (OK, IF YOU SAY SO.). we were playing music and having a good time. we wrote songs, people liked them, so we book a gig at birch hill and it just took off. we didn’t try do anything, it just happened. we never called anyone for a gig, they would call us (AGAIN,THERE YOU GO.MY POINT IS MADE RIGHT THERE. HOW MANY CLUBS CALLED WHEN I QUIT LAST YEAR FOR A YEAR??? NONE!!!!!!). and that was cool. we were beyond the ‘we’re gonna be rock stars.’ if it happened great, if it didn’t, we are musicians and we are playin our own music and having fun doing it. we were always writing. scott got in the band and the writing stoppped (MAYBE BEACAUSE GARY MOVED TO PA WITH HIS GIRLFRIEND FOR A WHILE DUH, IM THE DRUMMER DICKHEAD). we have not wrote one new song since scott has been in the band (READ PREV COMMENT). he is more into playin rock star than to work a little (I DID ALL THE BOOKINGS, PROMOTION, ECT. YOU WANTED EVERYTHING TO COME TO YOU, WHO’S ACTING LIKE THE ROCKSTAR??) IDIOT!!!!!. to us that’s what kept it fresh, as it would to anyone. i could go on about the fucked up things he has done (LIKE, MAKING THE BAND DO MORE STUFF INSTEAD OF GETTING DRUNK AND LOOSING EVERYTHING YOU HAVE, OH YEA,YOU ALREADY DID THAT). he is the biggest poser i know. i hate being negative. if i had my way he would have been gone years ago. (THATS FUNNY, I LEFT FOR A YEAR AND UNTIL I CAME BACK,YOU GUYS DID NOT 1 THING) AM I LYING??????

But wait, there’s more! People are already taking sides. Here’s another e-mail from Zyris’ roadie with a few thoughts on the matter.

I asked Scott to clear up most of the shit he said in 10 questions, but he didn’t, so I just want to clear up 1 thing. In reference to the Johnny I – Zakk incident of throwing Zakk down stairs, If Scott knew what the fuck he was talking about or for that matter even knew Johnny or Jeff at the time he would know that neither of the two ever fought with each other. The only person thrown down the stairs at that time was an obnoxius photographer, but it may have been Scott if he was with us at the time.

close personal friend and longtime roadie for Johnny I and Zyris. Thank you.

And here’s an e-mail we got in defense of Scott the drummer guy. This is from frequent Gossip Board poster and all around New Jersey Sludgeaholic, none other than DefLepChick!

I just had to write in about the whole Zyris/Zyris feud. First of all, it’s no question where my loyalties lie, as I am friends with Scott. Before Scott joined the band, they were barely playing anywhere. Scott was the only one who did ANYTHING for that band. As Paulie said, all they want to do is drink and that’s exactly what they did for every show that I went to.

Take for example, their last few shows. At Dingbatz on March 25th, they had to send "longtime roadie" (as he calls himself) out to the bar across the street to retrieve Johnny I for the show. Scott was busy working with LAG road crew to get the show organized, as he had been all afternoon, hours before the rest of the guys showed up. During the show, Paulie was so drunk that he fell over on stage. On April 2nd at Goodfellas, Scott was there before noon getting everything ready. When my friend and I showed up at 6 pm, Johnny and Paulie were drinking in the other bar while Scott was busy working. Johnny and Paulie drank steadily until they went on stage at 10:30. They were asked to play longer, but Johnny was too drunk to handle it, so they ended their set. They also drank so much that the owner actually LOST MONEY by having them play.

I knew when they reunited two months ago that it was a train wreck waiting to happen, but I was hopeful for Scott’s sake. I did what I could to help (put up a MySpace page, booked some shows, promoted shows, etc.). A lot of this was because Scott was tired of handling all of the responsibility himself while the rest of the band did nothing. They showed up to drink and play, and that was it. I should have realized it was a losing proposition from the get-go.

It’s a shame that the rest of the band has no ambitions other than to drink. Zyris has some great songs. Paulie is a pretty good bassist and Gary is a phenomenal guitarist and good singer. When they added Scott’s drums and vocals to the mix, the band improved quite a bit. And his 10 Questions with Sludge certainly got them more publicity (whether good or bad–and is there really BAD publicity?) than they have had since Zakk left the band to join Ozzy. But I can’t see them continuing after Scott leaves. They just won’t make the effort and will simply fade away like so many other bands that never made it out of Jersey.

I’m out like Zyris’s future,

DefLepChick

Well this is interesting to say the least! The whole world is watching the Zyris/Zyris feud unfold, so we’ll be sure to bring you up-to-the-minute reports as this situation develops.
