DUBROW SAYS GO
Kevin’s brother Dr. Terry Dubrow gives ‘big thumbs up’ to Quiet Riot for adding American Idol’s James Durbin

Billboard —  Quiet Riot’s decision to appoint American Idol season 10 alum James Durbin as its new frontman was the right choice, Terry Dubrow — the younger brother of late lead singer Kevin Dubrow — tells Billboard.

Dubrow — a plastic surgeon who appears regularly with his wife, Heather, on The Real Housewives of Orange Countyand co-host of E’s Botched and Botched by Nature — gives Durbin a big thumbs up, adding that this is the best move the band has made since his brother passed away in 2007. His replacements have included Jizzy Pearl (Ratt, L.A. Guns) and Keith St. John, formerly of Montrose.

“Finally Quiet Riot gets a lead vocalist who will do my brother’s voice justice,” he tells Billboard.

“Every time I watched James in American Idol I would close my eyes and I would swear he was channeling Kevin,” he says. “He’s got great range and the gravelly depth that launched Quiet Riot to stardom.”

Dubrow credits Quiet Riot drummer/bandleader Frankie Banali for making the move to replace Seann Nicols as the lead singer. The band’s album with Nicols, Road Rage, arrives April 21 on Frontiers Music.

Durbin, who worked with Quiet Riot guitarist Alex Grossi on the February release of the five-song EP Maps to the Hollywood Scars: Volume 1, won’t be doing any songs from that album when he makes his debut March 18 in Wichita, Kan.  He previously told Billboard the group will be focusing on heritage tracks from its catalog.

“I think there’s some really awesome gems in the Quiet Riot catalog that are really overlooked,” says Durbin. “I love ‘Put Up or Shut Up.’ I love ‘Condition Critical’ and ‘Thunderbird,’ even the song ‘It Sucks to Be You’ from the Quiet Riot documentary [Well Now You’re Here, There’s No Way Back]. I’m really looking forward to putting my spin on it as a singer. I feel I’m much more melodic in my singing than some of the singers Quiet Riot has featured in the past, so I’m looking forward to soaring those vocals over the crowd.”

Dubrow says he is anxious to hear those songs as well.

“I believe he and Frankie are going to do something special together, and I can’t wait to him him sing the Quiet Riot classics,” he says. “Cheers to them all!”
