Ex. Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz and wife Candi are calling it quits.

LAKE WORTH — Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz and his socialite wife are filing for divorce — three months to the day after his arrest at his Lake Worth in a domestic violence incident.

The charges stemming from the Christmas eve fight were eventually dropped, but wife Candi says she and the heavy metal axman are calling it quits after nine years and the birth of twin boys.

“Life is too short,” she said, “no matter how much you might love someone, it may not be the right thing.”

Candi, 38, has just become a manager at the local chapter of Alzheimer’s Association, and says the split has been amicable so far.

“Obviously, the Christmas incident shows this was a long time coming,” she said. “I hope we can co-parent effectively.”

Spitz, 51, has become a near recluse and recently took up a second career as a watch maker.

He made news on Christmas eve when he was arrested by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies for allegedly roughing up Candi. She asked that the charges be dropped, pinning the incident on tee-totaller Dan drinking wine.

Spitz posted this statement on his website: “It is with a mutual love and respect that we are formally announcing our legal separation and upcoming divorce. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority during this time of transition. It is a painful time for all involved and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time.”
