Rudy Sarzo tweets dis against “Filipino Tribute bands”
Rudy Sarzo tweets borderline racist remark about Filipino Tribute Bands – Is this a dig at Journey?
This past week Rock n’ Roll lost a legend when Lou Reed die. Many fans, comrades and industry types commented about his passing. Including one time Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne band & Whitesnake bassist Rudy Sarzo.
Sarzo tweets: “Who do we have to replace the rock gods that are passing ? : /” Filipino Tribute bands .:0) “
Nashville based rock singer John Allen replied with: “Rudy, ” Filipino Tribute bands)” Does nationality matter ? A tribute band is about the music….”
Who is to say where Rudy was headed with that remark, but one could assume he is referring to Journey and their Filipino born tribute phenom Arnel Pineda. Pineda became world famous for his Journey tributes in his home country. So much so, that lead to Neil Schon seeking out Arnel and ultimately handing him the mic to front Journey in 2007.
The band with Pineda has enjoyed some great success. Journey’s first album with Pineda, Revelation, debuted at No. 5 in the Billboard Top 200 album charts in the week following its release (released June 3, 2008), and remained in the Top 20 for six weeks. It was certified gold by the RIAA with more than 336,000 units sold within the first few days. It achieved platinum status by October 1, 2008.
Rudy Sarzo himself like Pineda – was not born in the US and in fact born in Havana Cuba.
Our question is this – How would Rudy feel if someone tweeted “Who do we have to replace the rock gods that are passing? :-/ Cuban tribute bands. ”
Check your self before you wreck yourself Mr. Sarzo.
