Jon Bon Jovi interested in buying NFL team Buffalo Bills

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Rock singer Jon Bon Jovi is interested in buying the Buffalo Bills, according to an article from CBS Sports.

Jason La Canfora, an NFL Insider for CBS, said, “Rock star Jon Bon Jovi is consumed with purchasing an NFL team, according to numerous sources with knowledge of the situation, and is among the parties positioning to purchase the Buffalo Bills when the team comes up for sale.”

Team owner Ralph Wilson, who is 95, says as long as he is living, the team is not for sale. There is widespread speculation about what happens to the team in the longer term.

He reported that Bon Jovi has met with many leaders in the NFL and “has spent considerable time in the (Western New York) area getting to know politicians and power brokers.”

La Canfora said sources tell him there’s little chance the Bills would leave Western New York/Southern Ontario no matter who the next owner is.

According to Forbes, Bon Jovi was the third highest-paid musician in the world in 2013, bringing in $79 million. In its 2012 “Ones to Watch” list, Forbes estimated Bon Jovi has a total net worth of $290 million.

Forbes estimates the Bills are valued at $870 million, as of August 2013. That ranks the team 30th in the league in terms of value.

A spokesperson for Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said he is not among those leaders who have spoken to Bon Jovi.

“Bon Jovi is apparently part of a group expressing interest in buying the team, but there’s been no contact between them and Erie County,” said the spokesperson. “This is why it was important to get the 10 year lease in place.”

Bon Jovi’s publicist, Ken Sunshine, told 2 On Your Side the singer has “no comment on the report.”

2 On Your Side will have more details on the future of the Bills and more reaction throughout the day on wgrz.com and tonight on Channel 2 News at Six with Sports Director Adam Benigni.
