— Zakk Wylde on Ozzy & Dimebag
LOS ANGELES, California — Zakk Wylde sits down with Get On The Bus and let’s it all hang out from his Ozzy Osbourne audition at the age of 20, to jamming with Guns N’ Roses and his current position playing guitar for Pantera.
Wylde is without a doubt one of rock and metal’s premiere guitarists over the past many decades, and his resume speaks volumes… the New Jersey native has carved himself out a nice history of working in and around music royalty.
Zakk takes listeners back to the first phone call from Sharon Osbourne, and also shares details of how he sent in a cassette tape playing Ozzy‘s songs, along with a Polaroid photo of him sitting on the front porch of his parent’s home in New Jersey.
Wylde also says that upon first meeting Ozzy, the late iconic rocker seemed to have thought he had met the young guitarist previously… and after a few minutes of chatting, it turns out Ozzy was recalling seeing that same Polaroid when the package arrived.
Now, nearly 4 decades later, Wylde shares some of his journey with Get On The Bus.
Listen below, and hear about his tenure with Ozzy as he shares stories from the various writing and recording sessions.
Zakk also talks about receiving a phone call from Axl Rose who invited him down to jam with Guns N’ Roses and in recent years his time paying tribute to his late friend ‘Dimebag’ Darrell Abbott as he tours with Pantera.
Wylde also shows great respect for those who came before and after him, including his praise of Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee and Joe Holmes… along with mentions of several other musical greats.
