Rock guitarist from Leatherwolf escorted off plane for being ‘drunk and disorderly’ detained by Peoria Sheriffs department twice in 48 hours
Illinois — Rock guitarist Geoff Gayer was removed from his flight over the weekend after partying a little too hard, this according to a source. Gayer who played guitar as an original member of the southern California heavy metal band Leatherwolf appeared with Michael Olivieri and Carey Howe to perform as TRIPLE AXE ATTACK.
The trio appeared at ROCK N’ SKULL 3-day music festival in Pekin Illinois.
According to our source, the guitarist had boarded a plane to fly home after the group’s Friday night appearance but became belligerent and was shouting curse words.
The flight crew tried to calm Gayer to no avail at which point authorities were summoned to the plane before take-off. Gayer was not arrested, but removed from the flight and held on a 3 hour hold at the local airport before being released.
The latest update is that Gayer was once again involved in another incident that resulted in a second run-in with local law enforcement in less than 48 hours.
According to a fans Facebook posting (see screen below) the guitarist was arrested late last night.
We reached out to confirm this arrest, but our source has informed us, that Gayer was not arrested, but was detained a second time by local Sherriff’s.
The second incident was allegedly to have been for fighting in the parking lot of the Concorde Inn in Pekin.
We reached out to ROCK N’ SKULL promoter Justin Murr who confirmed the rumors of Gayer’s actions. Murr was at the hotel today to sort last minute business with some of the artists leaving town. Murr informed Gayer that Metal Sludge reached out to him about the rumors and we were posting an article. When informed of this article, Gayer seemed stoked to be Sludge’d and replied, “Fuck ya!”
The guitarist was so excited, he even posed for this cell phone photo below.
Geoff Gayer on his run in with local law enforcement; “Fuck ya!”
We also have reached out to Leatherwolf vocalist Michael Olivieri for a comment to which he replied: “”I have no comment. I’m not gonna throw him under the bus. He’s doing fine throwing himself under it.”
The band parted ways with Gayer in 2007 and the end of their European tour seemed to have been affected by Gayer and similar behavior. At the time the band released a statement found on Blabbermouth that read: “First of all, we would like to apologize to the Rock House crew in Pescara, Italy and all the fans that were looking forward to seeing us live. We were very much looking forward to playing for you all and ending our trip on a high note. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. Geoff‘s unacceptable behavior prevented us from carrying on after last night’s gig at the Black Horse in Cermenate. We will spare you the details but it was ugly — now we know how the members of UFO must have felt like every time Michael Schenker had one of his ‘episodes.’
The band Leatherwolf formed in 1981 and in recent years has re-emerged to play select shows with a variation in the line up at the guitar position.
ROCK N’ SKULL seemed to have hit a home run with its Inaugural weekend with Saturday’s crowd estimated to be around 500 fans. The entire weekend saw upwards of 1,300 rockers through the doors.
