”Phil and I used to be very close friends, and because of that history, some of my recent remarks were colored by old hurt feelings and personal opinions from years ago. Looking back, I realized I was speaking more from a place of past pain than who I am today.”
— Brent Muscat on Phil Lewis of L.A. Guns
LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Former Faster Pussycat guitarist Brent Muscat has come out to clarify his recent remarks that he made about L.A. Guns frontman Phil Lewis.
Muscat had recently done an in-depth interview with Metal-Rules and there was a lot about L.A. Guns.
Of course Muscat was part of the Sunset Strip scene and the classic Faster Pussycat lineup but at some point in the early 2000’s he also did a few short stints in L.A. Guns with Lewis, Tracii Guns and the late Steve Riley.
Now after that interview seemed to hit a few nerves the guitarist appears to retract part of those comments.
Metal Sludge covered the drama with our article: “L.A. DIRT … Brent Muscat unloads on L.A. Guns frontman: “Phil Lewis would do Anything for 50 Bucks. Phil Lewis would Stab his Own Mother in the Back, that’s just how he is.”
Muscat unloaded on Lewis covering multiple subjects about how the (L.A. Guns) band did business, focusing on money that was promised but over time the amount continued to change and it went lower said the guitarist.
We also covered the follow-up when Lewis‘ bandmate Tracii Guns went to bat for his singer in our story: “L.A. LEFTOVERS … Tracii Guns on Brent Muscat: “I have never met a person before that waits for everyone to finish their meals at Denny’s and then eats their leftovers.”
Now, on January 31st Muscat took to Facebook writing: “I’d like to clarify some comments I made in a recent interview regarding Phil Lewis.
Phil and I used to be very close friends, and because of that history, some of my recent remarks were colored by old hurt feelings and personal opinions from years ago. Looking back, I realized I was speaking more from a place of past pain than who I am today.”
Muscat ended his post with: “I want to be clear that I don’t hold any grudges. I’ve always been a fan of his work, and while our personal experience was difficult for me, I truly hope he treats his current friends and bandmates with the respect they deserve. I wish him nothing but the best and wanted to make sure my personal ‘old news’ didn’t come across as a lack of respect for his talent or his career.”
This is not the first time members of these bands have had issues with each other, and whether within the same camp or from one band to the other, there has been some kind of unrest for much of the last several decades going on with these Hollywood era groups.
Both Faster Pussycat and L.A. Guns evolved from the Sunset Strip in the mid 80’s along with Poison, JetBoy and the mighty Guns N’ Roses.
With that, Metal Sludge would like to give a plug here to Vicky Hamilton for her book “Appetite For Dysfunction” which covers a lot of what happened with all of these groups during the early years as they were coming up in the scene… it is highly recommended reading for fans of these bands and the era.
