VAINS OF GENIE?
The Cruel Intentions release new video “Genie’s Got A Problem”
Scandinavia — Slowly creeping up and making themselves heard are the Scandinavian rock n’ roll band The Cruel Intentions. Formed less than a year ago the band have already issued 3 singles including their latest gem “Genie’s Got A Problem.”
The Cruel Intentions are led by former Vains of Jenna frontman Lizzy DeVine and dropped their debut “Borderline Crazy” earlier this year followed by second single “Stare At The Sun“.
Now the band is back with a super catchy fun lyric filled pop rock punch clocking in at just under 3 minutes!
The latest from these cruel intended bad boys is a short tale about the little local cocaine fueled hometown hottie.
Her name is Genie as you can guess.
Devine’s voice is as charismatic as ever when he spits lines like; “Genie’s getting louder, puking in the shower. A little bit of that, a little bit of this, Daddy’s little girl is a rock n’ roll bitch.”
What could be a cooler line than “Genie’s sniffin’ powder, ten lines in an hour” for an angst ridden group of party hearty nomads.
The video was self-produced by the band and their use of a GoPro on DeVine’s mic stand takes you full circle (literally) as the band rips through Marshall amps on Gibson guitars.
The clip has endless ear candy with drum fills, guitar licks and more drum fills. This kid can play. And let’s not forget the sing-a-long backs ups – like when Devine sings “Maybe it’s time to grow up?” the band boldy shouts “Hell No!”
This song has an element of punk in it with the Sex Pistol’s meets Ramone’s esque riff. Add in some cool Euro pop rock melody and that guttery sound that Guns N’ Roses made famous and you have a track that should have Hot Topic kids jumping for joy.
How can you not love the “Shout At The Devil” poster sitting happily on the wall just left of the band’s baby faced 21 year old drummer. As Tommy Lee looks on this kid rips double bass and super fast yet clean chops that flood your brain.
The rehearsal space where they shot this clip features a Sid Vicious poster among others, but word is the guys removed the KISS poster before the shoot. Why? They said they didn’t want to be sued. Lol. Gene Simmons and his legal reach even scares kids in Norway.
According to their own bio the band are from Oslo, Norway via Falkenberg, Sweden. DeVine and Mats Wernerson (Bassist) are Swedish while Kristian Nygaard Solhaug (Lead Guitar) and Eiliv Sagrusten (Drums) hail from Norway.
DeVine was a founding member of Vains Of Jenna but left the band in March 2010. He resurfaced in 2013 playing shows as a solo artist around Los Angeles and in South America. After years stateside he relocated to his native Sweden and soon formed The Cruel Intentions.
The band’s hot new track was written by The Cruel Intentions and mixed by Swedish studio wizard Chris Laney. Look for the band to do more touring in the coming year.
