RHODE ISLAND — The Station Nightclub Fire was an unimaginable tragedy that shook the 80’s rock world to its core when a horrible fire engulfed a popular live music venue in West Warwick Rhode Island.
The Los Angeles based rock band Jack Russell’s Great White was advertised to to appear that night… Thursday February 20th 2003.
The band’s frontman Jack Russell was out touring with a lineup that featured; Mark Kendall (lead guitar), Ty Longley (guitars), David Filice (bass) and Eric Powers (drums).
The guys had just started their show and within seconds the night took a horrible turn.
The group was performing their opening song (“Desert Moon“) when their pyrotechnics lit the ceiling on fire, which set in motion one of the Nation’s worst nightclub fires in history killing 100 people.
Over the years various interviews have circulated with band-members, fans and club employees too… who all shared their version of what happened that night.
Now, on the 23rd Anniversary of the horrible tragedy. one of those in attendance who survived is speaking out and telling his story on The Hair Metal Guru.
The Station Nightclub – venue layout and shared from IDH.
Music fan and local Rhode Island resident at the time – Sal Esposito – talks in-depth with Anthony Bryant, pka The Hair Metal Guru about his life in music, that tragic evening and how he’s coped with the memories all these years later.
Esposito shares his story, and sadly he lost his best friend Bill that night whom he attended the concert with.
We’re going to hold our tongue here, and let Sal Esposito tell his version of what happened on February 20th 2003 at ‘The Station Nightclub‘ just as Jack Russell’s Great White started their show.
Metal Sludge would like to extend our condolences to all involved.
