Fun Fact: Phil Lewis actually first met Tracii Guns on April Fool’s Day (April 1st) in 1987.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Just when you least expect it the world throws you a curve-ball… the occasional slider or perhaps a strike!
And today… L.A. Guns frontman Phil Lewis just threw us all a pitch that few were expecting.
Phil Lewis cut off all of his long luscious locks and is now sporting a super short cropped hairdo.
Lewis, as we all know has been the frontman of the Los Angeles Vampire Gang known as L.A. Guns since he signed on to front the band in the spring of 1987.
Lewis just turned the ripe old age of 69 and he is no spring chicken, but for a man less than a spin around the sun away from 70… Phil Lewis is as rock n’ roll cool as it gets… even with this new sharp looking cut.
But Phil is not the first member of L.A. Guns to deliver shock and awe with a new hair-style, nope… that started with the band’s founder, lead guitarist and chief song-writer Tracii Guns.
Fans will recall that in 1989 whenL.A. Guns released their smash hit video for “The Ballad Of Jayne”, viewers could not help but notice that Guns had cut his hair short. (see insert at right or watch the video below)
There is even a thread on Reddit about the most famous L.A. Guns song and one of the comment reads: “This video debuted Tracii Guns’ then new look. He had gotten tired of the generic hair metal look.”
Now the English born rock veteran who has called the West Coast of the United States home for just shy of 40 years, is going forward with a distinguished gray cut sans the length and jet black color.
Throughout history fans have been shocked with several entertainers when they dropped a bomb and suddenly showed up, minus their long hair.
Back in 1982 the late Ozzy Osbourne shaved his head and exactly 25 years later, so did Britney Spears.
Other famous haircuts in metal included the entire band Metallica in 1992 when their promo for their “Load” record hit the streets, and all 4 members were sporting short hair, and fashion choices that differed greatly from their previous look.
Tommy Lee of Mötley Crüe also famously cut his hair short and then along the way he let Phil Anselmo of Pantera shave his head clean… which appeared on one of the band’s home videos. (watch it below)
Even the guy who started this website took the new hairdo leap back in 2016… Stevie Rachelle shaved his head when he turned 50 and shared it all on his official Instagram.
A second image of the L.A. Guns frontman was also just shared with this one showing off a nicely put together outfit… and a hat that would make Bill Gazzari proud.
Now Phil Lewis joins the shocking rock n’ roll hair-cut crowd!
Welcome aboard and bravo Sir, you look great.
