“The grunge thing had taken out all the 80’s bands, and I was kind of the laughing stock of the music business at the time, with the Beavis and Butt-head and all that.”
— Kip Winger
YOUTUBE — In a recent episode of the Waste Some Time with Jason Green show, the latest guest is Winger frontman, bassist, chief songwriter and founder Kip Winger.
Winger and his band of the same name have been slowing down and dialing it back in the way of live shows in recent years, but… it seems last year’s finale or final show at the fall Rainbow Bar & Grill parking lot party was not the last.
Now it’s 2026 and Winger have some shows on the books for the coming year – 4 dates to be exact – and Kip also admits there might be something in 2027 as well.
Green, has been hosting his channel on Youtube since the pandemic, and Winger shares plenty with the host as they waste more than 60 minutes of your time… 66 minutes and 43 seconds to be exact.
Winger early on in the interview says: “It’s been coming for a long time, I told the band like 5 years ago, that I’m going to be, that I’m going to stop performing… so, it’s been kind of like this slow exit off the runway.”
He continues explaining his band’s slow fade, and acknowledges that some are questioning why Winger are scheduled to play more shows in 2026, when it was seemingly implied or believed that they retired late last year in 2025.
The former Playgirl cover model and one-time Hunk Of The Month from Rock Scene magazine also commented on the 90’s and how his name and the band became the butt-end of industry jokes stating: “The grunge thing had taken out all the 80’s bands, and I was kind of the laughing stock of the music business at the time, with the Beavis and Butt-head and all that.”
Winger does talk about his plans going forward and there are mentions of various events from over his music history in the rock world… but most of this interview the multi-talented musician speaks at length about his love for classical music and his interest to pursue more in the genre.
