Metal Sludge — In a brand new interview on the Waste Some Time with Jason Green Podcast, the guest is Erik Ferentinos.
If you are unfamiliar with Ferentinos, he is the lead guitarist in the Stephen Pearcy Band.
Ferentinos has an interesting back-story for sure as to how he got into the group with Pearcy.
As a teenager Ferentinos grew up in the upper-middle class neighborhood of Carlsbad California north of San Diego.
The guitarist who has played with Pearcy for over 20 years says (as transcribed by Metal Sludge):: “My Dad had good job and they had built their house there:”
Ironically Ferentinos then adds that his first band was called Poor White Trash.
Ferentinos talks about the big house being built across the street from his family home: “This amazing house was being built across the street, that looked like a castle.”
“Then my Mom says to me: “Hey, do you know who the band Ratt is?”, and this is in like, ya know 1987 or something like that, so Ratt is just all over MTV. They’re at their peak point of the band. So I’m like: “Of course I know who they are”, and she goes “Well don’t say anything, but their singer just moved in across the street.”
“We just, luckily became… buddies, and I think he thought I was older than I was.”
“When he was off the road, we would hang out and he, ya know… did try to help my band. He actually named our band Voodoo.” added Ferentinos.
Pearcy produced Voodoo who ended up gaining a local following in San Diego that also led to some radio air-play on Rock 102.1.
Voodoo was also offered opening slots on select Ratt shows along the way says Ferentinos.
“He was always so kind to me” added Ferentinos.
While living across the street from the rock star’s house Ferentinos says as a teenager he mowed the Ratt singer’s lawn and washed his cars too.
“Hey! Wanna wash my car, mow my lawn?” asked Pearcy of his teenage neighbor.
“I remember mowing his lawn and he’d have like, topless Penthouse girls in the backyard. I was like.. I couldn’t even mow it straight! One time I mowed right into his house.” says Ferentinos laughing.
The interview is close to 90 minutes long and it’s full of great stories and some very cool history for sure.
Ferentinos has also played guitar with the early 80’s MTV English new wave band Bow Wow Wow.
As is the norm with Green he conducts a very cool interview that is well paced and informative.
