Metal Sludge — In a recently uploaded audio clip by Full In Bloom Music, producer Tom Werman talks about working with Mötley Crüe and singer Vince Neil.
Werman discusses his time working with the band: “I remember struggling with Vince (Neil).”
The famed producer giggles and tells listeners how Neil tried his hardest but adds: “Sometimes he didn’t produce too many keepers because he had stayed up all night partying.”
“I had a process for all vocalists.” added Werman.
Werman (as transcribed by Metal Sludge): “Most of the time with a normal vocalist, (giggling) you know, ummm… we could do a song in about an hour. Umm, you know a lead vocal. With Robin Zander, we did it in… 10 minutes. Ahh, he could do 2 or 3 songs in one afternoon. He was truly amazing.”
“As a vocalist Vince (Neil), ahh, had a lot of character but wasn’t able to do that much work all at once. And ahh you know, he sometimes it just worked out that Nikki (Sixx) would have to sing to him what the melody was supposed to be. Umm, because he hadn’t enough time to learn the song.” added Werman.
Full In Bloom asked Werman, roughly how long it would take to ‘”get a final vocal” for a typical Mötley Crüe song with Neil.
Werman: “Well, you know, a few hours, maybe 2 hours one day, 2 hours the next day. And once, he ahh, had been partying the night before. He (Vince Neil) came in, he took his place in front of the mic, and we worked with him for several hours and we kept 1 line.”
Werman produced “Shout At The Devil“, “Theatre of Pain“ and “Girls, Girls, Girls“ for Mötley Crüe.
