David Bowie dead at 69 after battle with cancer

E-Online — David Bowie has passed away, just two days after his 69th birthday.

The legendary singer’s Facebook page posted the tragic news Sunday evening, writing, ” David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer.”

The statement continued, “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

No further details were released at this time.

Bowie was born David Robert Jones in England on January 8, 1947 and landed his first hit song at just 22-years-old with “Space Oddity”—a single that landed in the top five of the U.K. Singles Chart at the time of its release.

All throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Bowie became well-known for endlessly pushing boundaries during the glam-rock era, and even more famous for his androgynous alter ego named Ziggy Stardust.
