Metal Sludge — Some very sad news from the world of Rock n’ Roll as we report the passing of Jack Russell.

Russell passed away according to a statement from his camp but no official cause of death or an exact date has been released as of press time.

We have shared the official statement from the singer’s Facebook page below.

Statement from Jack Russell’s Facebook page from August 15th 2024

The singer had been battling various health complications for years, including a recent diagnosis of Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) and Multiple System Atrophy (MSA).

Russell had been side-lined in recent months from his own band Jack Russell’s Great White and last appeared in concert back in early April.

The Southern California native was born in Montebello and started playing back-yard parties and local clubs as a teenager starting in the 70’s.

In 1979, Russell was arrested for shooting a live-in maid in a botched robbery attempt, and sentenced to eight years in prison but only served 18 months before being paroled according to Wikipedia.

Russell eventually joined Dante Fox with guitarist Mark Kendall and the pair morphed their band into Great White in 1981 which the singer officially parted-ways with in late 2011.

Russell and his touring band were at the center of a National tragedy when their live show pyrotechnics set a Rhode Island nightclub on fire back in February of 2003.

The Station nightclub fire took the lives of 100 people including band-mate Ty Longley while injuring 230 more.

The former Great White singer had recently retired from touring on July 17th 2024.

Russell leaves behind his wife Heather of 13 years and 1 adult son.

Metal Sludge sends our condolences to Jack Russell‘s band-mates, friends and family.

Jack Russell was 63.
