MAY THE BEST SINGER WIN … Quiet Riot has kicked-off a new era with the Long Island Wonder-Kid John Torra on Lead Vocals … So Far, So Good… Say What?

Share

QUIET RIOT is… Rudy Sarzo, Johnny Kelly, John Torra & Alex Grossi

METAL SLUDGE / October 15th 2026 – What are the chances that a chubby 23-year-old kid from Massapequa Long Island New York wearing a denim battle-vest covered in patches with his bedroom-wall tiled in hair metal posters is the new singer fronting Quiet Riot?

If you thought; ‘About as good as a snowball lasting in hell’, well then you would be wrong.

To the haters and nay-sayers take note, Frosty the Snowman is currently pissing ice water all over Satan’s face and John Torra is the new lead singer for Quiet Riot.

Suck on that Mr. Ai Simulator…

Congrats… that comment alone is going to forever paint your name like a horribly misplaced load, which is fitting considering your chosen stage name.

Seriously wherever you go, please know that smug diss will always be remembered… and never forgotten.

Then you subliminally claimed in an unrelated post that you were recovering from a small case of “Foot in mouth disease” huh?

Weak…

The adult way to handle your mistake would have been a proper retraction or follow-up, man the F#@k up and own it… but that’s beneath you… so for now… keep those sun-glasses on in your future posts to hide the shame.

And not to make this post about you, but every snarky “F U” to a fan and all of your arrogant social media comments are seen, heard, shared and it’s all a continued bad look… not witty or funny.

Then you conveniently leave out Rudy Sarzo and Regina Banali’s names when thanking Quiet Riot for your time in the group… but go on to praise Alex Grossi and Johnny Kelly?

Truth is… all involved deserve praise and thanks… but please feel free to act shitty, it fits you well.

Last words from me to you…

I am sure they’ve all looked past this and will ignore it… but me… nope… so today we ride… the internet hears and sees everything, and my two-cents are that you’ve always been a prick!

Now… moving onward and upward… this post is about John Torra and Quiet Riot.

With the world watching, all eyes are on Quiet Riot, but more directly laser focused on the barely old enough to drink Torra.

So… why are we here and how did this all unfold, here are some thoughts from your favorite rock and metal website.

Starting off, Metal Sludge could not be more thrilled for this news as Torra was far and away the people’s choice from their first listen and the lone option that Metal Sludge and our good friend Hair Metal Huru championed from the start.

The DuBrow sound-alike will now take his set of skills to front one of the 80’s earliest heavy metal stand-outs in Quiet Riot, which will be no walk in the park… but Torra isn’t flinching and appears to not only have a big voice and a bigger than average body-frame for an 80’s rock frontman… he also has a big pair of balls to match.

Torra is not afraid of the moment and appears to be unphased by the monumental task that awaits him… clearly, the Quiet Riot camp as a whole are ignoring the negative as they should, besides the support and positivity out-weigh the hater’s hate by ten-fold.

More about Quiet Riot…

Remember, this band alone – post Van Halen – put this genre of music on the map at a level that had never been seen before.

Quiet Riot are pre-Motley Crue, pre-Ratt, pre-Dokken along with 98% of the rest, so please add pre-Your-Favorite-Band-Name here.

Their official U.S. debut “Metal Health” hit the stores in March of 1983 and by November of the same year, the Los Angeles based quartet were sitting at #1 on the Billboard music charts, a feat that had never happened before with a band of this ilk.

And if you want to split hairs… while the Van Halen debut was released on February 10th 1978, Quiet Riot’s debut release in Japan “Quiet Riot I”, hit the stores just a few weeks later on March 2nd 1978.

The point is… Quiet Riot have been around for a long time with a rich history that spans more than 5 decades from inception.

Simply put… Quiet Riot as a band and brand, players old and new, classic or not, should garner respect.

So, to all of you internet warriors trying to find a reason to hate on this group or their recent decision… what is your agenda anyway?

This band are 4 musicians, aged 23, 49, 58 and 75.

Their goal… and their job, is to play and perform the music of Quiet Riot for those who chose to buy a ticket and attend their show… whether in a club, a casino, at a state-fair, festival or aboard that wonderful floating ship coined the Monsters of Rock Cruise.

Know this… while you spew from your keyboard, they as the band, their manager and agent could give two F#@ks about any of what you say or think in the way of a negative opinion.

Kevin, Frankie and yes Randy too, and their respective families and estates, have all green-lighted this at each and every step of the way and yeah… last names won’t be necessary as their first names alone speak volume in the lore of Quiet Riot.

The real fans and the industry as well, know exactly who we are talking about when they are mentioned as such.

Adding here mid-rant… nobody told me to say this, no one in the band or camp has complained, or stated anything to me at any point, other than sheer happiness and joy related to John Torra stepping into their vacant singer slot but you know… Metal Sludge has to stick their nose in here anyway.

This is all simply coming from the guy who started policing and unloading on this industry via this website on September 1st 1998… and it hasn’t stopped, won’t stop, and might get turnt up as they say in the ghetto… because I am at the No F#@ks Given point possibly more than I have been in a while.

Okay… enough yelling right… lol!

Now where was I?

Oh yeah… so, Metal Sludge were on-board from the start with Torra and we could not be happier for the kid from New York and the band as a whole… not forgetting, countless fans across the internet and the numerous name musicians and industry veterans who all called for Torra to get the gig as well.

Now it’s set and once again, we all welcome John Torra to Quiet Riot.

Metal Sludge
have created a few notes of interest here, a timeline if you will, of select events and how they unfolded for Torra to get to this point.

John Torra like hundreds of others responded to Quiet Riot’s online post for interested singers to submit their audition.

On Wednesday July 15th at exactly 10:54am, Torra uploaded his 1st of 3 audition videos to his Facebook account and wrote the following message: “Quiet Riot Audition – Video 1 of 3

Quiet Riot recently announced they’re accepting submissions as they search for their new singer for next year. I figured… why not? Challenge accepted!

Here’s my take on “Cum On Feel the Noize,” one of their biggest classic hits. This is Video 1 of 3, where I’ll be covering three iconic Quiet Riot songs for my audition.

I hope you all enjoy it! Let me know what you think in the comments, and wish everyone who’s auditioning the best of luck.

May the best singer win!

For those keeping score, Torra recorded, uploaded and shared his first clip less than 24 hours after the band’s previous frontman shared his initial statement that he was leaving Quiet Riot.

“Hey Everyone—I have decided to leave Quiet Riot. I will continue to fulfill all scheduled dates within my contractual obligations. As the old cliche` says “I am moving on to new creative pursuits and projects.” Things happen when they’re supposed to happen. I wish the QR guys all the best—That’s it! Thanks!”

Quitter shared his statement on Facebook at exactly 11:00am on July 14th, while Quiet Riot shared their follow-up statement later that afternoon the same day.

Back to Torra…

What stands out here, is how mature this 23-year-old is… as he makes sure to wish everyone the best of luck and ends it with, “May the best singer win!”

Guess what John Torra…

You WERE and you ARE, the best singer for this gig… now it’s yours.

You won and congratulations.

But wait, there’s more as this story is just beginning.

Torra uploaded his 2nd video a few hours later at 1:49pm singing the song “Metal Health (Bang Your Head)” with both videos almost immediately going viral racking up countless views, comments and shares.

It’s safe to say that collectively the John Torra effect is into the millions with views, shares, likes and coverage.

Since their statement on September 21st announcing their new frontman, Quiet Riot have found their way into Rolling Stone, onto the pages of the New York Post, all over webzines like VICE, Loudwire, and Ultimate Classic Rock, endless coverage from the Hair Metal Guru podcast among others and segments on major T.V. news outlets like CBS.

All this for a guy who sang the songs in his bedroom as Whitesnake, Mötley Crüe, Cinderella and W.A.S.P. posters were his backdrop.

The best part about all of this… is it was, and is, 100% real.

This whole story is what movies are made of, and it happened for John Torra because it was supposed to… not because some bald guy from Fargo with a popular podcast started screaming; “I found him” or Metal Sludge shoved it down everyone’s throats for 2 months straight.

Nope, it happened because John Torra is not an Ai Simulator, and he can actually sing his ass off.

But let me get back to Massapequa’s local overnight hero…

The same clips were added to Torra’s Instagram and YouTube where the videos took on a life of their own with each hitting views into the multiple 6-figures and collectively across various social media his auditions were viewed millions of times.

Those videos are filled with charm as charisma as Torra makes eerily similar DuBrow-like faces singing; “So, you say I got a funny face? I got no worries. And I don’t know why”, as he slyly smiles with confidence and follows it with, “So, you think my singing’s out of time? It makes me money.”

There is plenty more to support that this guy is the real deal, a true rock and metal fan as Megadeth, Dio and Keel posters help fill in that same bedroom backdrop.

Not forgetting John’s denim cut with a KISS patch front left and a Dokken patch top right.

In a world filled with 20-somethings trying to go viral and garner that attention via Tik-Tok, this is no Kardashian kid or a looksmaxxer hitting his face with a hammer… nope, it’s John Torra and simply put, he’s moving and maxxing the needle and then-some all on his own.

Speaking of his age… that along the way seemed to be a huge point of contention by some of the negative Nancy’s spouting off on social media about John Torra only being 23.

A few notes for you, from Metal Sludge!

Nate Peck is currently 25 years old, and was already subbing for Firehouse when he was 22.

Brett Carlisle is the new singer for Great White, and first sang for them at age 25.

Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens joined Judas Priest when he was in his 29.

Adam Lambert got the job to sing for Queen when he was in his 29.

I think the point has been made, by all of these amazing young men, and congrats to them all, John Torra you are in good company.

This Quiet Riot and John Torra match, is truly a feel good story for a genre that has continued to battle for its own place in history and it seems safe to say the overwhelming majority are supporting this and happy to see it come to life.

Whether reading comments online, or hearing about it directly from those sharing their joy, it’s clear that so many in the 80’s, hard rock and hair metal communities are all celebrating this amazing ride that this development has been taking us all on.

The band Quiet Riot along with their manager Regina Banali are all beaming with excitement and it’s long over-due that our era gets a little boost of positivity, and this happening for this band could not be more deserved.

Let me share a direct quote from a known multi-platinum recording artists who every person reading this knows of and I want to share something they told me directly… but… I will hold off on their identity and simply share their direct words to me a few weeks ago.

“If you don’t root for John Torra, you suck as a human-being.” – ????? ???

When you start to dissect and breakdown the details, all of this is one hell of a story in the making… and in a world that is often filled with bad news, sad news and unfortunate drama, this just seems too awesome to not smile about it and celebrate it.

Fair?

More on John Torra and Quiet Riot’s history…

On February 12th 2003 a family on Long Island, Massapequa welcomed a baby boy into the world and they named him John.

Ironically, that same year, Quiet Riot decided to call it quits and the band broke up.

Rudy Sarzo went onto other projects while Kevin DuBrow and Frankie Banali seemingly put Quiet Riot to bed.

But a year later, in 2004 DuBrow, Banali along with on-n-off again bassist Chuck Wright decided to reform Quiet Riot once again, this time with a 20-something newbie on guitar… his name was Alex Grossi.

This is more than 20 years ago, and admittedly, I don’t recall what surrounded Banali and DuBrow’s decision then… but guessing there may have been some dust ups, and a few who thought; “How dare they let some no-name kid from the New England area stand on stage with them!”

Ha…. F#@k them too… Grossi is still standing and kudos to you Alex!

Sometimes things come full circle, and from those closest to this situation, each and everyone involved seems to believe there is something very special happening right now with John.

Now later this week the band will hit their original home turf as they play the world-famous “Whisky-A-Go-Go” on Friday October 16th in West Hollywood California.

Digging into a Google search, Quiet Riot played the “Whisky-A-Go-Go” in 1979 with their then line-up consisting of; Kevin DuBrow (Vocals), Randy Rhoads (Guitar), Rudy Sarzo (Bass) and Drew Forsyth (Drums).

Fun Fact: In 1979 Alex Grossi was 3 years old at the time, and John Torra’s proud Father Joey was turning 14.

Now, it’s coming full circle as Sarzo will lead the band with Torra, Grossi and Kelly to play the Sunset Strip nearly 50 years after that last date for Quiet Riot closed out their shows for the 1970’s at arguably one of the world’s most famous rock clubs.

The following night Saturday October 17th Quiet Riot will appear at “The Grove” in Anaheim California with Vegas rockers Slaughter and Paradise Kitty (all female Guns N’ Roses tribute).

Metal Sludge will be cheering all the way, and it seems an endless amount of rock, metal and 80’s fans will be doing the same.

Ready, Set, Riot
