“This was the next ‘Appetite For Destruction.'”
— The Hair Metal Guru on WildSide‘s “Under The Influence”
MS NEWS / April 13th 2026 — More from the Hair Metal Guru as his channel just continues to explode with interviews, round-tables and reviews of all things Hair Metal related.
Today we’re sharing one of his videos where The Guru and side-kick Ryan Van Kaathoven from Metalkast break down WildSide “Under The Influence”.
Guru and Ryan start this clip up by salivating their love of the band WildSide and they give listeners a break-down of the release rating tracks from worst to first.
WildSide was a Sunset Strip hairband that made their mark by eventually signing with Capitol Records… now more than 30 years later the 5-piece formerly known as Young Gunns is still a fan favorite, especially for the Hair Metal diehards.
The Guru‘s Youtube channel describes this clip with the following….
Wildside’s 1992 album Under the Influence is one of the most overlooked records of the entire hair metal era—and in this video, Ryan and I dive deep into why it’s a hidden classic.
Despite arriving at a time when the scene was collapsing, this album delivered everything we were looking for.
So why did it fail?
And does it deserve a second look today?
In this video, we:
• Break down the Under the Influence album
• Rank every track from worst to best
• And ask the big question: is this one of the most underrated albums of the ‘90s?
