James Kottak

Metal SludgeMetal Sludge is receiving direct messages from numerous industry sources that are alleging James Kottak has been fired from Kingdom Come.

Metal Sludge has reached our directly to members of Kingdom Come, but as of this posting there has been no confirmation of, or denial either.

Earlier today Metal Sludge ran a story where Kottak seemingly was throwing shade at his own band (Kingdom Come) stating he would not be at their up-coming September shows.

Kottak wrote on his Twitter on August 21st 2022: “I will not be at the Kingdom Come Plano or San Antonio shows so don’t waste your time thanks jams k [sic]”.

Now it seems it just might be ground-hog day for the drummer once again.

Kottak was relieved of duty from the Scorpions back in 2016.

Long-time Motorhead drummer Mikkey Dee was brought in to replace Kottak later that same year.

There were on-going problems with Kottak battling personal issues, which included an incident and arrest in a Dubai airport in 2014.

Google says: On April 29, 2014, the National Post reported via the Associated Press that Kottak was arrested in Dubai and sentenced to one month in jail for offensive behavior, insulting Islam, and public drunkenness.

Metal Sludge posted the drummer’s apology in June 2014 after the incident, in which Kottak took responsibility for his actions.

Kottak wrote in-part: “After years of drinking alcohol, on April 3rd, 2014 my addiction finally caught up with me during a 5-hour flight from Ekaterinburg, Russia to Bahrain via Dubai, during which I consumed 5 or 6 glasses of wine. While at the airport in Dubai I approached an airline representative to check on status of my flight. The representative informed me that I was in the wrong place and I replied “WTF?!.” The representative then called the police and reported that I was intoxicated (which I was) and that I made a lewd jester.”

On September 12, 2016, Kottak was fired from Scorpions for his alcoholism, and would later work on his recovery.

In late 2016 Dee was officially made a permanent member of Scorpions.

An excerpt from Blabbermouth from August 2017 reads: “Last September, the Swedish musician was named as a permanent replacement for SCORPIONS‘ longtime drummer James Kottak, who was dismissed from the band during his well-publicized his battle with alcoholism.”

Kottak was a member of Scorpions from 1996-2016. He was also previously a member of Kingdom Come (1987-1989 / 2018 – Present), Wild Horses, McAuley Schenker Group, Montrose and Warrant (1994-1996).

According to Wikipedia the current lineup of Kingdom Come is as follows…..

  • Keith St John – vocals (2018–present)
  • Danny Stag – lead guitar (1987–1989, 2014–present)
  • Rick Steier – rhythm guitar, keyboards (1987–1989, 2018–present)
  • Johnny B. Frank – bass guitar (1987–1989, 2014–present)
  • James Kottak – drums, percussion (1987–1989, 2018–present)
