Metal Sludge –– In a newly uploaded (September 22nd) audio interview from Full In Bloom Music, producer Ric Browde talks in depth about working with W.A.S.P..

Browde goes onto say the following about working with W.A.S.P. and the classic era members Blackie Lawless (Bass & Lead Vocals), Chris Holmes (Guitars), Randy Piper (Guitars) and Tony Richards (Drums).

Browde says….

* Blackie Lawless was so difficult to work with.
* Blackie assured me had $50,000.00 to do the album, but he really only had $1,500.00
* Blackie suggested they go to Vegas, and he put all the money ($1,500.00) on black on a roulette table but lost it all
* Tony Richards the drummer was a (heroin) junkie
* Tony was so bored, he’d be shooting up and he collapsed on the floor with a needle in his arm
* It was a calamity of errors (recording with W.A.S.P.)
* Tony was living with a hooker named Penny
* There was no way Tony was going to survive in that band, he was so F#@ked up
* I knew Blackie was getting rid of him (Tony)
* The only guy I liked in the band a lot was (guitarist) Chris Holmes
* Chris was kind of an innocent curmudgeon, who was funny, and was very misunderstand and not very bright
* I learned that Chris could not read or write… teachers just did not want to deal with him
* They (W.A.S.P.) were all smoking cigarettes on the porch, making morbid jokes
* Blackie thought I was disloyal that I was working on another project (due in Germany), so he fired me and hired Mike Varney
* Randy Piper was a nice guy, too nice to be in Blackie’s band, I knew he was going to get kicked out
* Blackie was into a sterile perfection, like auto-tuning before it became a thing
* Mutt Lange does it (auto tuning, sterile recording), does it very well, but we didn’t have the budget
* Most of their (W.A.S.P.) songs were throw away, I signed them because of “I Wanna Be Somebody”
* They’re (W.A.S.P.) stage act was pretty cool, kind of a mini- Alice Cooper
* To me, a good rock n’ roll song should make you wanna F#@k, if it doesn’t make you wanna F#@k, then it’s not worth sh!t
* Blackie would nit pick, and was into perfection
