“This is my story, but in truth, anyone who set out to chase the rock n’ roll dream can relate to it.”
— Stevie Rachelle on his new “Summer Of ’89” song
Metal Sludge — How old were you and where were you in life during the summer of 1989?
If you are old enough to remember, chances are you have some very fond memories from the final year of one of the most decorated decades our generation has ever experienced.
Now with his new single, Stevie Rachelle takes listeners back to a time that reflects their youth and an easier time in life, especially for those who were coming of age as the decade wound down.
Rachelle is about to release his first ever musical project that features all cover songs.
The 10 track offering covers 25+ years of music that Rachelle recorded and released going back as far as 1998 and as recent as 2022.
The RLS Records label owned and operated by the TUFF frontman will release Stevie Rachelle “Covers” in August 2024, and the project will be available in CD format along with availability on all digital platforms.
The release has covers that range from ABBA to Alice Cooper to Air Supply, The Beatles, Genesis, Kenny Logins and more.
But the stand out track is “Summer Of ’89” a re-imagined version of Bryan Adams‘ hit song “Summer Of ’69” released 39 summers ago back in 1985.
Rachelle penned the new lyrics and arrangement but the calendar is pushed back 20 years (after 1969) and the song is now “Summer Of ’89” which tells the story of joining a rock band, getting that big opportunity and it all falling to pieces.
“This is my story, but in truth, anyone who set out to chase the rock n’ roll dream can relate to it” says Rachelle.
“In writing these lyrics the story wasn’t hard to tell, as it’s all based on facts, and once again, much of what happened for me, the same can be said for countless other musicians” added Rachelle.
Rachelle is hitting Europe in July and August for a tour with German based SHAMELESS and Cherie Currie of The Runaways.
Upon returning from Europe, Rachelle will re-group with TUFF and hit the “Whisky-A-Go-Go” on Friday August 23rd and then the Phoenix area playing “The 44 Sports Bar & Grill” on Saturday August 24th.
