Radio jock Opie on Lita Ford in studio; ‘I was looking at crazy’
Opie Radio — Lita Ford is currently on a promotional book tour for her new memoir “Living Like A Runaway” just released on Harper Collins.
The former guitarist for The Runaways found herself under heavy fire earlier this week on the very popular Opie & Jimmy Radio show.
In 2011 Ford went through a much publicized bitter divorce with former Nitro singer Jim Gillette.
The divorce subject and why Ford has not seen their 2 kids (James 18 and Rocco 14) in 5 years was a hot topic. The show’s hosts just kept digging but seemingly could not come up with sensible answers.
The hosts kept saying; “This doesn’t make sense.”
The story itself has seen its fair share of ugly headlines over the years. But not always in a live Q&A format such as the Opie Radio show.
For those not aware, Gillette has sole legal and physical custody of their 2 children. The court ordered documents were signed by Ford. For more on this, you can read our January 2015 feature story COURT ORDERED with Jim Gillette.
During the interiew it appears that it’s an uncomfortable setting for most of the room. The hosts seem puzzled when Ford alleges the kids were wired for sound when they visited her and would not speak.
Added to the list of odd claims, Ford says the kids would not pet the dogs and that Gillette sent them to summer camp with brain washing books.
The queen of metal also tells the duo that the kids were taken away from her for speeding on the Miami turnpike and that Gillette has illegally disappeared with their teenage boys.
At one point Norton asks Ford; “Was there anything like, anything like….cause something doesn’t make sense. That he was able to get away with this. Were you partying at one point and then you stopped?”
“No, no absolutely not” said Ford.
The Opie Radio show has labeled it as the “Lita Ford Debacle” on their youtube channel.
During part of their post wrap-up on the interview Jim Norton says; “That was very uncomfortable. I started to panic into that interview.”
Opie then asks; “Why?”
Jim; “Because I was worried, about, is something going to happen that we were going to get sued for.” He then adds; “I started to really panic. Because her publicist freaked out so much in there.”
Opie then surmises with; “I ah, look… (taking a deep breath) I’ll say this… (pause) And I don’t know, I don’t know for real. And I gotta say that. But I know crazy. At this point in my life, I know crazy. And I was looking at crazy. In my humble opinion. And I’m just like, wow. And that’s one reason why I didn’t go all in.”
