“I have a theory… if you were in a band, and you think your band didn’t do well because of 3 guys from Seattle, than you’re pathetic!”
— Riki Rachtman – Cathouse / Headbanger’s Ball
Metal Sludge — This subject has been beat to death more than the “Will Skid Row reunite with Sebastian Bach” topic.
But, it continuously gets asked of the so-called Hair Band or Hair Metal stars of yesteryear, and 80’s Metal Recycle Bin has compiled a ‘best of’ of sorts.
What subject is that you’re asking… the ever popular, “What or who killed Hair Metal” topic.
Of course even the very term Hair Metal, or Hair Band is in its own right is a topic that gets argued on.
Some guys are accepting of it and are okay using it, while others loathe the mention of it and how dare their band gets lumped in with the rest.
It’s never an easy simple Q&A, as there are always a lot of ifs, ands, or buts when it comes to this very topic.
The list is an impressive one with the following weighing in on the “Did Grunge Really Kill (Hair) Metal?“; Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Stephen Pearcy (Ratt), Phil Lewis (L.A. Guns), Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot), Mark Slaughter (Slaughter), George Lynch (Dokken), Jack Russell (Great White), Steve Whiteman (Kix), Jack Blades (Night Ranger), Kane Roberts (Alice Cooper Band), Brad Gillis (Night Ranger), Dave Meneketti (Y&T), Bobby Blotzer (Ratt), Vinnie Appice (Dio / Black Sabbath), Gilby Clarke (Guns N’ Roses) John Corabi (The Dead Daisies / The Scream) along with radio and veejay personalities Eddie Trunk (Sirius / XM / Hair Nation) and Riki Rachtman (Cathouse / Headbanger’s Ball).
To see who said what, you’ll have to watch the latest episode of the 80’s Metal Recycle Bin shared below.
