Did You Use To Hang On The Sunset Strip 20 Or More Years Ago? If So, Watch & Listen To “Heavy Metal Thunder”

Sunset Strip — We’re not sure a big long story is needed here, but let us set up the basics.

If you were around the Sunset Strip during the hey day then you might want to take a listen to “Heavy Metal Thunder” by MK4. Who is MK4 you may be asking. Mk4 is a bay area band fronted by Britt Pennella who most will recognize from his work with  Blackboard Jungle over the years.  Britt’s story line in “Heavy Metal Thunder” will hit home with many who once walked the Sunset Strip. Whether you were a band member from the stage, club promoter at the door or a pretty girl in the crowd – we urge you to log on and listen.  This song is full of heart and passion and even though a much more mature sound than it’s ‘Heavy Metal’ tag – if you were there, you will get it and appreciate where this comes from.

The bands video  link description reads as follows:

“In the late 1980s , thousands of kids from all over the country descended daily to the sunset strip in Hollywood California for just a glimpse and maybe a taste of what they had watched on MTV. This city, and there lives will be forever changed. This song and video is dedicated to them.”

Marissa Tellez who stars in the video http://www.marisatellez.com was a Strip kid as well and author of Rock and Roll High School. (Video by Gorilla Punk) http://www.mk4music.com

“Heavy Metal Thunder”

He took Sunset down to the Silverlake border
Sold his old Les Paul, The waitress took his order.
The Strip ain’t been the same, since 91
And it’s been ten years since she’s had any Appetite,
For Destruction

She used to like skaters, and the glam rock boys
But she listened to The Cure
And she loved The Waterboys
Now she’s moved to the valley
with a couple of kids
And about her stripper past,
She always kept things, well hid.

Chorus:
And it was like Hey Ho
Heavy Metal Thunder
it was like  Hey Ho
Someone said no ones  getting younger
We kept crossin the bridge
till it got pulled under
it was like Hey Ho
It was Heavy Metal Thunder

Married the girl with good looks
That was short on mental health
He’s got the old band picture
In a frame up on a shelf
Now he paints sets in the valley
and it pays pretty well
But he misses rock n roll bars
she misses rock n roll smells

Chorus:
it was like Hey Ho
it was Heavy Metal Thunder
it was like  Hey Ho
Someone said no ones getting younger
We kept crossin the bridge
till it got pulled under
it was like Hey Ho
It was Heavy Metal Thunder

Then the last chord rang
and the crowd thinned out
There were no more anthems to shout out loud
Life settled in
And we settled down
Sometimes she still misses that big drum sound

Chorus:
And it was like Hey Ho
it was Heavy Metal Thunder
it was like  Hey Ho
Someone said No ones getting younger
We kept crossin the bridge
till a wave pulled it under
it was like Hey Ho
Pure Heavy Metal Thunder
