Metal Sludge — In a new episode of Waste Some Time with Jason Green, Love/Hate singer Jizzy Pearl is the guest.
Pearl has a lengthy resume of bands he’s performed with including; Ratt, Quiet Riot, L.A Guns and Adler’s Appetite.
But even with holding down front-man duties in other people’s projects, Pearl has continued to push the Love/Hate brand a full 30+ years later.
In this brand new 2021 interview, done quarantine style from his home, Pearl touches on his various treks with all those bands, their players and how those offers came to be.
Pearl also touches on the competition of getting signed from playing the Sunset Strip, and refers to the ever elusive record deal as a Golden Ticket.
“That was a hard time, watching everyone else get record deals. It was hard congratulating people, I had to fortify myself with strong drink, to be able to smile at Junkyard, and L.A. Guns and JetBoy” says Pearl
“In that time, it was… it was like Wonka’s Golden Tickets. You know what I mean. Every time some band got signed, you thought that was one less golden ticket.”
But the most interesting segment is the singer detailing the June 1st 1991 publicity stunt, when his Love/Hate band-mates hung him on a make-shift cross.
Not only did they hang him on a cross, they attached that huge cross to the ‘Y’ of the iconic Hollywood Sign.
Pearl talks about the band building the 25 foot tall cross outside their downtown rehearsal space and living quarters.
The sign itself is roughly 5 stories tall and the width of the word Hollywood is 350 feet, longer than a NFL football field.
Pearl thought he would be up there for 30 or 40 minutes before their prank would be over, but that wasn’t the case.
Pearl was on the cross for several hours before being spotted by a local News helicopter.
