MÖTLEY CRÜE RETURNS TO U.S.A. WITH “CARNIVAL OF SINS”
Band Announces an Additional 55 Dates Beginning July 26, with Exclusive Pre-Sale on AOL CityGuide
Los Angeles, CA (March 1, 2005) — If you didn’t catch the traveling freak show that is Mötley Crüe’s spectacular “Red, White & Crue Tour 2005… Better Live Than Dead,” you’re in luck.
Tomorrow morning, the bad boys of rock will announce an additional 55 shows on Howard Stern’s nationally syndicated radio show. The new dates, which follow their tour in Europe and Asia, start on July 26 in Los Angeles, CA and run through October 16 in Sioux City Iowa. A pre-sale of these dates will begin Wednesday (March 2) on AOL CityGuide (www.AOLcityguide.com), with general tickets on sale March 5.
These new dates, dubbed “Carnival of Sins,” will include some festival-style amphitheatre and arena dates with special guests, fellow Island/IDJ recording artists Sum 41, The Exies and some of the hottest new rock bands in various markets, to be announced.
Program and Music Directors have responded strongly to “If I Die Tomorrow,” which garnered Top 5 airplay at the Active, Heritage and Mainstream Rock formats. Clear Channel Regional Vice President of Rock Programming Jim Richards said: “Radio stations are getting a big response from Crüe fans because they know they are part of something special.”
The band’s tour, co-promoted by VH1 and VH1 Classic, has been drawing record crowds around the world, with the group eventually playing before an estimated 1 million in the U.S. Mötley Crüe had offers from more than 100 cities for their summer run, many of them conducting “Bring the Crüe” campaigns through local radio stations and media promotions that resulted in petitions being signed and a series of 55 dates added in the U.S. through the summer and fall. A similar promotion in Canada saw the band’s new album, Red White & Crüe, certified platinum, and several concerts north of the border added to the tour.
The reviews from the first few dates of the self-proclaimed “Loudest Show On Earth,” which includes fire-breathing midgets, aerial displays and assorted circus freaks and geeks, have been uniformly enthusiastic.
The Detroit Free Press proclaimed: “Certain rock bands are infamous for their sins. Ozzy Osbourne is known for his drug past and Van Halen for firing lead singers. Kiss was known for womanizing; Marilyn Manson is allegedly a Satanist. However, L.A. metal quartet Mötley Crüe is legendary for all of these vices, and then some.”
“All that was missing from this show was someone being shot out of a cannon!” raved the Toronto Sun. “Give them time, given the band is returning in the summer.”
The Toronto Star enthused: “Suddenly, a reunited Crüe seems like the very embodiment of cool.”
The Cleveland Plain-Dealer said simply: “Spread the word: Mötley Crüe is back!”
The band’s New York stay includes, weather permitting, rolling up to the New York Stock Exchange in their custom-made motorcycles, ringing the final bell to close the market day and performing to a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden.
Mötley Crüe’s new Island/UME greatest hits compilation debuted at #6 on the Billboard charts on the strength of three new songs, including the Top 5 Active Rock hit, “If I Die Tomorrow.”
The first Mötley Crüe world tour in six years officially launched Feb. 17 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. For more information, see www.motley.com.
