Las Vegas, NV — Jizzy Pearl of the band Love/Hate posted today on Facebook and defended Lonn Friend. The former RIP magazine editor was robbed and mugged recently and detailed the attack and the men who did it. Friend mentioned them being ‘black’ and referred to them as ‘thugs’. This story found HERE has stirred some controversary with readers calling Friend a racist for his rant. See Jizzy’s post below, which is folllowed by a reply from Lonn as well.

Lonn Friend got mugged yesterday by 4 black guys. On Sludge someone called him a racist for noting the fact that they were black. Unfortunately according to that logic I must be put in the same category because when I got home-invaded and had to drive off a much larger Mexican guy I did in fact notice that he was dark-skinned. It wouldn’t have mattered at the time if he was white, black or Hispanic, at the time when I jump-kicked him in the chest it only mattered that he drop my guitar and vacate the premises. I did not question the ideas of discrimination, illegal immigration or 400 years of oppression in those 40 seconds of terror–I only tried to get a drugged-up invader the Fuck out of my house. Apparently I have been verbally accosted online by someone accusing me of being racist for simply identifying my attackers as black. If I was mugged by a hassidic wearing a yarmulke I would have pointed that out, too. I thank Jizzy Pearl for defending my honor. For the record, I don’t have a racist bone in my body. Never have. RIP magazine was art directed and designed by a black man named Craig Jones, who was also a close friend back in the day. Ask the members of Body Count if I’m racist. Misinterpretation and incendiary comments heal neither the victims of crime or the society where hate continues to breed unchecked. I seek no penance. I only want to better understand the source of our collective suffering.
