Poison to appear at Indy 500 Kick Off Concert

Classic rock bands and modern rock bands have been regular picks for Carb Day concerts, but this year will be the first to present authentic hair metal to the masses gathered in the infield of Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Poison, a band that had a great career until the grunge explosion sent every spandex-and-Aquanet act reeling during the early 1990s, should be up to the task of facilitating a party with refrains of “Nothin’ but a good time” and “I want action tonight.”
Led by Bret Michaels, who’s moonlighted as a reality TV star (“Rock of Love,” “Celebrity Apprentice” champion), Poison thrived in the 1980s with hits such as “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Talk Dirty to Me” and “Something to Believe In.”
Founded in Pennsylvania in 1983, the band tours with all four members from its impact era: Michaels, guitarist C.C. DeVille, drummer Rikki Rockett and bass player Bobby Dall.
Michaels, who played a solo show on opening night of the Super Bowl Village concert series in January 2012, counts Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Paul Stanley of Kiss and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin as influential rock ’n’ roll heroes.
“What I loved about Steven Tyler was that he was just complete attitude and cool,” Michaels told The Indianapolis Star in 2000. “What I liked about Paul Stanley was that he was a complete showman. And what I liked about Robert Plant was that he had this element of singer-songwriter and also was a cool guy.”
Poison’s appearance at Carb Day follows recent headliners Lynyrd Skynyrd (2012), Staind with Papa Roach (2011) and ZZ Top (2010).
