SLUDGE SIGHTINGS

If you look through any of the celebrity magazines, like US Weekly, People, or even the tabloids, you’ll generally see celebrity sightings, like “Cameron Diaz was seen bowling at the White Trash Bowling Alley” or “Carson Daly was getting his nails done at The Douche Bag Salon yesterday” or whatever. It’s generally useless info but still interesting to see where the “stars” show up. But there has never been anything like that for the bands or artists we cover, basically because nobody gives a shit. Until now! We give a shit, and we thought we’d create a section based on Sludge Sightings. Did you see Don Dokken looking at wigs at Macy’s? Was Vince Neil ordering chicken wings and beer at your local Hooters? Was Gene Simmons behind you in line at the bank? Did you see Sebastian Bach buying tampons at Piggly Wiggly? No matter who you saw, we want to know!

May 2005 Sightings

P.J. Farley was allegedly spotted at a 7-11 in Elmwood Park, New Jersey on May 22nd.

Jani Lane and Stevie Rachelle were seen sitting at a table together for over an hour on Saturday night, May 14th at the Rainbow Bar & Grill in Hollywood.

Chip Z’Nuff was spotted at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Crestwood, Illinois at approximately 10:30 a.m Saturday, May 14th.

April 2005 Sightings

“This weekend I was at the Seymour Duncan User Group Day, where George Lynch was one of the guest stars. Here is a picture of him (on the right) at the ATM machine on April 23rd at the hotel we were at in Santa Barbara. I believe he was going to go see the Atomic Punks who were playing up there.”

A reportedly drunk Dave Grohl (saying over and over, “I’m so drunk”) was spotted on April 1st at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, and was overheard telling Lemmy from Motorhead that he loves Lemmy so much that he wants to look like him. Allegedly, Dio’s keyboard player was overheard telling people that he had no idea who Dave Grohl was.

March 2005 Sightings

Paul Stanley was seen in Ralph’s on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks, California shopping in the produce isle with a blonde woman on Easter Sunday, March 27th at approximately 2 p.m.

Gunner Nelson was seen in the Cheesecake Factory in Sherman Oaks having lunch on Tuesday, March 22nd.

February 2005 Sightings

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain was seen waiting in the will call line for the Motley Crue show at the Office Depot Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on Thursday, February 17th.

January 2005 Sightings

Paul Stanley was spotted at a Subway in Sherman Oaks, California on January 27 wearing a pair of leather pants and a nondescript shirt. He was allegedly overheard ordering a “6-inch.”

Joe Lynn Turner was seen walking from the parking lot into Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts for the January 16th Colts/Patriots playoffs game.

November 2004 Sightings

Chris Holmes was at the Scorpions/Tesla concert on Saturday, November 27th in Los Angeles, reportedly “looking like a mess — it was fuckn rad.”

2003 Sludgeaholic of the Year C.C. Banana and 2001 Sludgeaholic of the Year Jim Bob Dwarf were seen together at Double D’s, a topless bar in Morristown, New Jersey on Saturday night, November 27th.

October 2004 Sightings

Amir Derakh and those other guys in Orgy were seen in Albuquerque International Airport on October 19, reputedly because their Southwest Airlines flight was delayed due to fog. They allegedly “sat around looking tired and bugged and generally put up with the throng of families wandering about. Amir finally hit the Quiznos and got himself a snack. He ate his food, then they cut in line in front of people who had been waiting for hours, and he left his trash on a counter top for someone else to clean up.”

September 2004 Sightings

September 27: “Hey! We went to Casino Windsor (Windsor, Ontario) last night (9/27) and ran into Alice Cooper and some Chuck guy that used to be in L.A. Guns as well as Alice’s daughter Calico. They were playing nickle slots. Go figure.”

Steven Tyler was seen on September 21st at approximately 2:05 pm at Neiman Marcus in the Copley Mall, Boston, Massachusetts, at an appearance by makeup artist Trish McEvoy.

On September 2, Dana Strum was on TED Airlines flight 958 sitting in seat 22D en route from Las Vegas to Denver. Allegedly, nobody recognized him, even when he loudly placed a cell phone call as everyone was boarding, saying “YEAH, THIS IS DANA STRUM!” I didin’t give away that I knew who that was.

Oddly enough, Dana was also on the TED return flight from Chicago on Labor Day, September 6., reportedly wearing a crazy red silk patterned shirt and what appeared to be black silk pajama pants. A witness stated that Dana seemed “to stand far away from all the other passengers and to board the flight as early as humanly possible.”

January 2004 Sightings

On January 22nd, at 10:13 AM, Stephen Pearcy was at Office Depot on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, CA. Incidentally Josh from Queens of The Stone Age was in the same checkout line and Stephen asked me who he was.

Disturbed singer Dave Draiman was seen at the Sherman Oaks Pacific Galleria 16 on Monday, January 19th seeing the movie “Big Fish” with some alternative looking chick.

Kid Rock was seen in Green Bay, WI after the Green Bay Packers playoff victory over Seattle on January 4, 2004. He was spotted partying it up with some friends at The Stadium View Sports Bar (across from Lambeau Field).

December 2003 Sightings

Sebastian Bach was spotted at the Texas Roadhouse in Brockton, MA, on December 4th.

November 2003 Sightings

Don Dokken and his wig were seen at the California Pita & Grill in Sherman Oaks, California, on Saturday, November 8th.

October 2003 Sightings

Kevin DuBrow was seen at Paymon’s Mediterranean Cafe in Las Vegas. He eats there every week and was last spotted during the noon hour on 10/25.

“Atlanta, GA – Saturday October 25th – around 4:45 PM… we saw Scott Ian of Anthrax (and a few other guys – maybe friends or roadies) walking through Lenox Mall, leaving the Neiman Marcus wing, right as they were passing by the Betsey Johnson store (note Lenox Mall is the “upscale / ritzy” mall in the Buckhead district, the “uptown” area). They were dressed in the usual casual attire and chatting. Of course, Scott’s very unique beard stands out a mile away. Anthrax played a show at The Masquerade later that same night (headlining “Metalfest 2003″).”

Duff McKagan was seen on October 22nd at the Handy J Car Wash on Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks, California, having his car washed.

Alice Cooper was spotted by a few people shopping at Roosevelt Field Mall in Long Island, NY., on Wednesday, October 22nd

Kevin DuBrow was seen at the free Kip Winger solo acoustic performance at the Palms Hotel and Casino 10/21/03.

Ron Taylor of Lillian Axe was seen at Taco Delight in Plano, Texas, on October 16.

Billy Morris of Warrant was seen eating at Little Italy in Cleveland, Ohio, with a lovely lady.

Sebastian Bach was seen at the OfficeMax in Holmdel, New Jersey. Bach was there to have some backstage passes made.

September 2003 Sightings

Jizzy Pearl from Ratt was seen walking down Sherman Way in Van Nuys, California, dressed in all black.

Ritchie Kotzen (sitting next to Pat Torpey) was sighted on a 9/19 Tokyo-LA flight with his finger up his nose digging boogers out for most of the flight. A flight attendant was overheard saying she was going to offer him a spoon!

Jeff Pilson was recently seen at the Guitar Center in Sherman Oaks, California.

Brian Welch, aka Head of KORN, at CompUSA in Long Beach buying a Powerbook G4 Battery, Power Adapter, Serene Screen Aquarium Screen Saver, some blank CDRs, plus misc things.

Nikki Sixx, Donna D’Erico and 2 of their kids at the Michaels (Craftstore) on Ventura Blvd in Encino, California, in early September.

Tom Hamilton from Aerosmith was seen shopping in the Cape Cod Mall in Massachussets on September 1st with his son. He was at Hot Topic and then he bought a cell phone from AT&T Wireless.

August 2003 Sightings

Taime Downe and Ron Jeremy (separately) at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in Hollywood, CA on Thursday, August 14, 2003.

Chris Jericho was spotted Friday afternoon, August 15th, at a Coconuts Music store in Evansville, Indiana. The Fozzy frontman was spotted with fellow WWE Superstar Shane Helms “The Hurricane.” Both were very friendly and I nervously chatted with Y2J about the FOZZY DVD. Mr. Jericho purchased an Andrew Dice Clay cd. – sent in by a Sludgeaholic

C.C. DeVille took to South Street in Philadelphia and hung at Mako’s Bar with two of his security buds.

David Silveria of Korn was at the Providence Place Mall in Providence, RI, on August 15.

Beautiful Creatures’ Anthony Focx was seen at AstroBurger on Santa Monica ordering a veggie burger with no bun. Just burger and lettuce. Freak.

The Blue Meanie was seen at the Marilyn Manson show in Philadelphia on August 8th passing out 3PW flyers.

L.A. Guns’ singer Phil Lewis was seen looking for CDs at Amoeba Records on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood on August 11th.

July 2003 Sightings

Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain was seen on Sunday, July 27th, in a midtown Manhattan drugstore. He was buying tampons for his wife, who was back at the hotel only a few blocks away. This was an off night for the band, and only two nights after Nico was arrested at the Jones Beach, Long Island show for assault.

Jani Lane and his manager Obi Steinman had lunch at The Cheesecake Factory in Sherman Oaks, California, on July 22nd. Hopefully Jani didn’t eat too much cheesecake.

James Hetfield of Metallica was seen at Disney World in Orlando on July 13th. They played in Orlando the previous day.

June 2003 Sightings

Skid Row’s Phil Varone was spotted in Sioux City, Iowa, on June 21 at a Burger King.

Thursday, June 12, Nikki Sixx was spotted at Von’s on Pacific Coast Highway and Sunset, Pacific Palisades, CA. In late July, Nikki was also seen with his kids ordering food at Howdy’s in Malibu.

Axl Rose was spotted in the lobby of the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas on June 10th.

Paul Stanley was seen grocery shopping at the Ralphs on Ventura Blvd, in Sherman Oaks, California, around 2PM on a Sunday in April.
