Cinderella’s Tom Keifer plays intimate sold concert in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – What a rare treat to see one of Rock’s all-time greats in an intimate club setting, as Cinderella singer Tom Keifer performed a solo concert Thursday, May 2 at the Canyon Club before a lucky crowd of just a few hundred.
Cinderella has sold millions of records and played a series of big arena tours through the years, but this was a lot different. There Keifer was, so close you could reach out and touch him, as the raspy-voiced Steven Tyler clone proved in fine voice while working his way through such Cinderella classics as “Coming Home,” “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)” and of course “Gypsy Road.”

Backed by a tight band that included noted keyboard player Paul Taylor (Winger, Steve Perry), Keifer also performed some songs from his new solo CD “The Way Life Goes,” released just a few days prior and featuring a catchy single called “The Flower Song.”
Sometimes known for being dark and moody, Keifer was in good spirits on this go, as he smiled and shared stories. For the first half hour or so, he went back and forth between acoustic numbers and full-on rock selections, and the show gained steam towards the end when Keifer found himself not just warmed up but revved up.

Just when things were getting really good, the lanky Philadelphian called it night with fans wanting more – isn’t that way it’s supposed to be? – and the fun continued with a backstage party complete with liquor, groupies and a smattering of rock celebs like Cinderella drummer Fred Coury, Burning Rain singer Keith St. John and Giuffria/London drummer Alan Krigger.
We can’t tell you the details of what came next. After all, road stories are best left on the road.
