“Poison is the fifth generation of Rock N’ Roll”
Rikki Rockett / 1986

Metal Sludge — Well, it appears Rikki Rockett was in fact correct!

We should give him a crystal ball, and ask him for the winning Lottery numbers next.

With that… let’s all go back in time and take a look at Rikki Rockett‘s letter and resume that he sent to Pearl Drums seeking their support for an endorsement.

The time frame appears to be around late 1985 or early 1986, soon after the band had gotten signed and recorded their debut record for Enigma Records which was released on May 23rd 1986.

This is an amazing piece of Poison history as they were all 20-somethings with the world in front of them, and soon they would embark on a journey not even the guys in Poison could have predicted.

Congrats and kudos to not only Rikki, but Poison as a whole.

Poison are one of the few bands left, who have soldiered on, moved forward, broke up, reunited… and now in 2024 they’re still together with their classic lineup.

The band who originated from Hollywood California by way of Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania are on the door of 40 years since their debut “Look What The Cat Dragged In” was released.

Now, 38 years later a quick Google search says the band have sold 30 million records in the U.S.A. and 65 million globally.

Wow… not too shabby!

Rumors and gossip have squarely put a bulls-eye on the calendar for 2026, that Poison will embark on a massive tour to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of their triple platinum debut album.

But in the meantime… we’ll have to wait and see…

Maybe we should ask Rikki, since he appears to be pretty good at predicting the future.

We have redacted all of the phone contacts from this letter, and reference list, even though we’re pretty sure most of the numbers are no longer in service.

Enjoy the read…
