“I feel like I have questions to ask him, and you know… what should we do about this and what should we do about that.”
Kelly Nickels speaks on his friendship and the sudden passing of his band-mate Steve Riley

Metal Sludge — In a new episode of the Waste Some Time with Jason Green podcast, the guest is classic L.A. Guns bassist Kelly Nickels.

Nickels speaks about the sudden and unexpected passing of his band-mate and friend Steve Riley.

Nickels at some points in the interview seems to be a bit choked up but also celebrates his friendship and the history he shared with Riley along with the others by laughing at some of their crazy past.

L.A. Guns have had an embroiled road that has seen the band, its original core members and the various lineups go through hell and back over their near 40 year history.

Steve Riley

Green has been integral in this band’s recent history the same, as he was the catalyst who put certain pieces (Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis) back on stage together in December of 2013, which saw their long-standing feud seemingly come to an end.

A few years later in 2016/2017, the 2 lineups split again, with Riley being left on the outside of the newly re-formed version of L.A. Guns, that would once again feature both Guns and Lewis.

The aforementioned soon found Riley reuniting with Nickels in his own version of the group in 2019 at the annual M3 Music Festival, which seemingly went from a one-off, to an on-going thing.

Riley’s L.A. Guns (a name they settled on after lawsuits and legal battles took place) eventually hit the studio to record original music along with playing select live shows.

Riley’s L.A. Guns will now issue their follow up to “Renegades, with their newest recording “The Dark Horse” (Golden Robot Records) which will hit the streets on January 22nd 2024.

The group and label chose this date specifically, as its Riley‘s birthday.

Nickels talks about their plans for their up coming show that they have decided to do in Steve Riley‘s honor with the blessing of Mrs. Riley.

There is also some talk about who will play drums and Kelly shares some personal thoughts and feelings about everything that has transpired over the years.

At some late in the interview Nickels states: “We’ll see… we’ll see what happens, I don’t know.
